Top Five Reasons to Love Caribbean Stud Poker

David Sklansky is one of the foremost poker experts in the world today. But did he invent Caribbean Stud Poker? Sklansky claims to have fathered this game in 1982, under the name Casino Poker, but he didn’t patent the game, and the version we know and love today is slightly different than Sklansky’s. Caribbean Stud Poker ended up the official property of Shuffle Master, now known as SHFL Entertainment.
We may never know its true origin story, but Caribbean Stud Poker has become quite popular over the years, and it’s one of the many table games you can play right here at Bodog. Here are five reasons this is such a great game – one for each of the five cards you’re dealt.
Progressive Jackpots
Sklansky’s version of Caribbean Stud Poker definitely didn’t include any progressives. At press time, there’s a big $105,000 jackpot waiting to be won, pooled between this game and its sister, Caribbean Hold’em. You can win this jackpot by placing the $1 side bet and getting a Royal Flush.
Ease of Play
Caribbean Stud Poker is a highly simplified version of 5-Card Stud, an early form of poker that grew in popularity during the American Civil War. Just place your Ante bet and receive five cards, face-up. If you think your hand will beat the Dealer’s, double your bet by hitting the Raise button; otherwise, fold.
Simple Strategy
The main thing to remember in Caribbean Stud Poker is to raise when you have at least a Pair, and fold when you have anything worse than Ace-King. If you get dealt Ace-King, things get a little trickier, but with practice, you can lower the house edge to less than 5.25%.
Generous Payouts
If you play Caribbean Stud Poker at most live casinos – or on a cruise ship, which is where the game got its name – you’ll be paid at 100:1 if you hit that Royal Flush during regular play. At Bodog, the payout for a Royal is 200:1. Plus, instead of receiving the standard payout of $50 on your progressive side bet for making a Flush, you’ll receive $75.
Fast and Fun
Because there are so few decisions to make in Caribbean Stud Poker, each hand takes mere moments to complete. The action keeps flowing and the fun never stops until you decide to leave the game. Try it for free at Bodog using the Practice Play mode, and you’ll be the table captain in no time.
